Joanna Walsh, Julianne Pachico and Kate Horne, Hay Festival Arequipa 2018

We are proud to announce three important representatives of British contemporary culture who will participate in the fourth edition of the Hay Festival Arequipa 2018: Joanna Walsh, writer, illustrator and critic; Julianne Pachico, writer; and Kate Horne, documentary maker.

 

Joanna Walsh

Writer of fiction, and non-fiction, journalist and a campaigner. She is the author of seven books including a digital novel, ‘Seed’ which can be found at seed-story.com, and which has also been adapted for performance. Her  Books include Hotel (2015), Vertigo 2015 and Fractals. Her writing has been widely published in anthologies and journals including The Dalkey Archive's Best European Fiction 2015, Granta Magazine, and Salt's Best British Short Stories, 2014 and 2015. She writes criticism for The Guardian, The New Statesman, and The TLS. She is a contributing editor at 3:AM Magazine and Catapult.co, and she runs #readwomen, described by the New York Times as "a rallying cry for equal treatment for women writers".

In 2017 she was awarded the UK Arts Foundation's Fellowship in Literature. She is currently the Anthony Burgess Fellow at the University of Manchester, UK

Julianne Pachico

Born in Cambridge (U.K.) and grew up in Cali (Colombia). She is currently completing her PhD in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia. In addition to The Lucky Ones her short fiction has appeared in Best British Short Stories and The New Yorker. She was shortlisted for the 2017 Sunday Times/Peters Fraser + Dunlop Young Writer of the Year Award.

Kate Horne

As a documentary maker she has captured stories from Colombia in Hostage in the Jungle (2010), about the kidnapping and subsequent holding of Colombian ex-presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt and Gabo, the work of Gabriel García Márquez (2015), about this renowned author. This year, El testigo: Caín y Abel, was released, a documentary about the life and work of Colombian photographer Jesús Abad Colorado, a graphic reporter who has dedicated the last 25 years of his life to portraying the internal armed conflict in Colombia. She has worked in the television industry for over a decade, directing and producing documentaries and content for the BBC, Channel 4, Arte, Canal Plus.
